Good News/Bad News

I've got some good news and some bad news.

First the good news of course. Thanks to my dad's salesman powers, my flight was changed from monday to August 1st. So that means I have a solid date planned in my book for going back. Which may not mean much, but it feels good to have a date set.

Second bit of good news. I found these sweet potato crisps that are oddly good. I thought they were just regular potato at first, but after the first taste and actual reading the Japanese on the package, it was pretty obvious it was sweet potato. So clever. It's the little things in life.

A 3rd bit of good news. I have a new student that I began tutoring. She is really nice and speaks pretty good english. She just wants to meet and have me correct her English when she talks. She lived in Hawaii for one year so she has some English-speaking country experience under her belt. She told me that Hawaii was too small and boring for her, so she returned to Tokyo. Also she told me that she doesn't like Japanese food and misses Taco Bell a lot. So she's pretty much my Japanese hero.

And some potential bad news. I may be out of my steady job of teaching little ones English in April. Because the kids I am teaching now are going to stop the lessons because they have to start cram schools to study for junior high entrance tests. These kids are in fourth grade. It's crazy. The people at work said there is still a good possibility that new students will sign up in March. But as it stand right now, the only class available for me to teach is on a day I'll have to be at Uni. Blast.

I can't really think of any other bad news to add here to even things out. But I should be fair, so I'll add that the soup in a cup I got at the store was a bad choice. It was probably my fault for trying to save 100 yen. It was called "Corn Pottage Soup". Pottage means soup in French. So it reminded me a bit of the classic:

Waiter: What will you be having today sir?
Customer: What is the "soup du jour"?
Waiter: The soup of the day
Customer: I'll take it!
